Summary: Become a better trail steward by learning how to effectively lead volunteers in the construction and maintenance of sustainable trails.
Description: This two day training will introduce the fundamentals of successful volunteer crew management for the construction and maintenance of sustainable trails. The focus will be on singletrack trails. All singletrack trail enthusiasts are invited and encouraged to register - hikers, equestrians, mountain bikers, motorcyclists, etc.
The Colorado Outdoor Training Initiative (COTI) has developed a standardized curriculum for training trail crew leaders in Colorado. The course will be taught by trained COTI Instructors using COTI's Guide to Crew Leadership for Trails. All participants will receive a copy of this manual. Through classroom sessions, field exercises and role-playing you'll learn and practice construction and maintenance of sustainable trails, leadership strategies and techniques, tool use, and safety.
Most of the course will be conducted in the field so come prepared with sturdy boots, long pants, work gloves, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and water.
