Summary: Get trained in crosscut saw use and maintenance.
Description: The focus of the training will be on sawing safety, basic bucking and limbing, felling principles and techniques, an overview of the tools of the trade (crosscuts, axes, plumb-bobs, wedges, etc.), tool care and maintenance, hazard analysis and situational awareness, and did we mention safety (lots on sawing safety).
Certification (or re-certification) will essentially be a recommendation that must be approved by each local agency land manager where work with saws will be preformed. In the jargon of the US Forest Service, instructors will focus on the training and certification of sawyers at the ~A Sawyer~ level for bucking, felling, and limbing activities. Those that demonstrate the ability to safely and confidently handle intermediate sawing situations, utilizing approved Forest Service procedures, may be certified at the ~B Sawyer~ level.
