Description

Start Date-End Date: 04/14/2007-04/15/2007 Land Manager Office: Land Manager Contact: Funding Partner: Programmatic Partner: Summary: Learn how to safely operate and maintain a chainsaw Description: The Colorado Outdoor Training Initiative (COTI), in partnership with the Colorado State Forest Service (CSFS), will offer a chainsaw skills workshop to train volunteer sawyers in proper chainsaw use and maintenance. The workshop will be taught using the standard S-212 curriculum. Training materials and classroom lecture will support entry-level training for volunteers with little or no previous experience in operating a saw, and field exercises will provide hands-on practice with adequate supervision. The purpose of the sawyer workshop is to train volunteer sawyers to safely operate chainsaws in order to remove logouts, limb and buck fallen timber, fall trees, and cut materials needed for trail-work projects. This workshop will NOT provide participants with formal chainsaw certification, however, those participants who qualify will receive a recommendation for certification from the workshop instructors at the conclusion of the course. Chainsaw certification can only be granted through a land management agency (USFS, BLM, etc) and this training is an important first step in the process. Participants must attend both workshop sessions (2 weekends) to successfully complete the S-212 training.
