Summary: The Outdoor Stewardship Institute (OSI) will present an exciting training program for trail crew leadership in Grand Junction.
Description:
The Outdoor Stewardship Institute (OSI) will present an exciting training program for trail crew leadership. Participants have the option of choosing crew leadership for trails or crew leadership for ecological restoration. This 16 hour training will introduce the fundamentals of successful volunteer crew management for the construction and maintenance of sustainable trails OR ecological restoration. Through classroom sessions, field exercises and role-playing you'll learn and practice techincal skills, leadership strategies and techniques, tool use, and safety. All trainees will receive a Crew Leader manual , a set of quick reference cards, and other materials that make for a successful crew leadership experience. All training topics are directly applicable to any non-profit or agency trail maintenance or construction project! This workshop is best for individuals who have had experience working on trail projects or ecological restoration or have previous crew leadership experiences.
All three training sessions are required. On Friday evening and Saturday morning, both trails and ecological restoration trainees will participate in classroom sessions together. On Saturday morning and Sunday, we will split up in the field into smaller groups for trails or ecological restoration.
