Description: STEWARDSHIP SITE Having gone by such names as Garden of the Angels and Garden of the Titans in its past, Red Rocks is one of Colorado's most impressive and iconic natural monuments. The park is aptly named for the 300 million year old red sandstone formations which jut magnificently into the mountain air. The park's trail system provides access to some of the most spectacular views of Denver and the Front Range. VOLUNTEER PROJECT - WHAT & WHY Due to the popularity of the park, several unsustainable social trails have been created by foot traffic instead of by a professional trail designer. These haphazard trails cause degradation to plant species and wild animal habitat as well as pose a plethora of erosion and sedimentation issues. We will be constructing a new trail from the water tank area to the Geologic Overlook area. This new trail will complete an important loop within Red Rocks and help make Red Rocks a healthier and more sustainable park. Specifically, volunteer work will involve constructing a new trail over an existing social trail and building new fences to keep park visitors on the proper path.
