Summary: Chainsaw training and certification for volunteers. This is not a S-212.This is a MTDC certification course.
Description:
The focus of the training will be on sawing safety, basic bucking, limbing, and felling principles and techniques, overview of the tools of the trade, tool care and maintenance, hazard analysis and situational awareness, and did we mention safety (lots on sawing safety).
This MTDC course will evaluate up to a "sawyer B" this is not the same as a "B faller".A sawyer B certification will include complex binds and bucking scenarios usuallyassociated with significant blowdown events, and limited falling.This certification allows sawyers to work without the supervision of an advanced sawyer but within the limits their owncertification.A certification will still need to be in the presence of a "sawyer B" or higher.
All participants must have a valid basic first aid for the cert or recommendation to be given.
Lodging and meals will be provided beginning 4/19-4/21. If you would like to utilize lodging on4/18 an additional $30 fee will be required (meals will not be included on4/18).

A recently tunedgas powered chainsaw (available to participants in extremely limited quantities)
Heavy-duty, cut-resistant or leather, waterproof or water- repellent, 8-inch-high laced boots 8-inch-high laced boots with nonskid soles
Long sleeves
Pants (no fraying on the boot overlap)
Hearing protection for 85 decibels or higher (provided by VOC)
Leather gloves (available to participants in limited quantities)
6pt hard hat (available to participants in limited quantities)
Eye protection (available to participants in limited quantities)
Chain saw chaps with a 2-inch boot overlap (available to participants in limited quantities)
