Improvements to the severly eroded trail included a large amount of deberming and treadwork. Volunteers established proper slope of the tread to ensure effective water drainage, and rerouted portions of the trail away from an unsustainable line that had developed due to heavy bike use. To keep users on the new trail, volunteers also closed potions of the old route with rocks and debris. Successes and Challenges: Erik from Lakewood was unable to get the work section flagged until the morning of the project. However, with VOC staff help we were able to quickly accomplish this. Once the volunteers were shown the particulars of the work, they really got rolling and did a great job! Lessons Learned: Staff assumed that the work would be general enough, that when a snowstorm precluded the initially scheduled site, it was not rescheduled. We would've greatly benefitted from some more advance knowledge. ALWAYS DO A SITE VISIT! Special Notes: Stewardship Education: Key Concerns or Comments from Staff or Volunteers: Description of Accidents/Incidents: Description of Work Completed:
