Start Date-End Date: 09/23/2016-09/23/2016 Land Manager Office: Town of Breckenridge Land Manager Contact: Tony Overlock Funding Partner: Otten Johnson Robinson Neff + Ragonetti PC Programmatic Partner: Summary: The Mineral Hill Trail project is constructing a new natural surface trail, which measures about 7,000 feet. The Mineral Hill trail will provide an important connection between Minnie Mine and Side Door trail to the Golden Horseshoe. This will be a multi-use, non-motorized trail: hiking, running, mountain biking, snowshoeing and x-country skiing. To help complete this large undertaking other groups will be working on this project throughout the summer such as the Friends of Breckenridge Trails Volunteer group, Rocky Mountain Youth Corps and the International Mountain Biking Association (I.M.B.A) Trail Care Crew. Description: Volunteers will work under the supervision of the Town of Breckenridge trails staff to construct new trail. There is about 1,000 feet of remaining trail in order to finish this connecting section. Volunteers will attempt to accomplish as much of the trail as possible in the short duration of the project. The weather was warm for the first part of the project, but quickly turned cold and then proceeded to snow as we ended the day. Volunteers had a good time working on the project, but were tired out easily. They decided to finish early, heading back to the trailhead about 45 minutes before the end time. Successes and Challenges: Coordinating with the Town of Breck is always a good experience. Lessons Learned: Special Notes: Stewardship Education: Key Concerns or Comments from Staff or Volunteers: This was a very short project. There was far more prep and travel time than actual work time on the trail. Just something to be aware of with this type of group so that the land managers have the right mindset going into things.
