Summary: Assist with a Day of Planting and Revegetation at a unique Urban Refuge!
Description: Located along Sand Creek between Aurora and the Stapleton urban development in Denver, Bluff Lake Nature Center is a unique urban wildlife refuge that conserves an abundance of animals and native plants, including bats, beavers, owls and coyotes. The natural area sees 10,000 visitors annually, including 4,000 local school children for whom the Nature Center provides yearly environmental education opportunities. As the urban redevelopment at Stapleton creeps closer to the Natural Area's boundary, human use of the educational and recreational amenities offered is steadily increasing.
Volunteers are needed to help restore and revegetate 3.5 acres of prairie ecosystem in the Nature Center. This will be accomplished by planting native shrubs, trees and forbs (flowers) and may also include invasive weed removal and re-seeding. Tasks will accommodate all physical skill levels, and will be appropriate for those interested in volunteering as Crew Leaders for a Day.
