Summary: Volunteers will transplant Lodgepole Pine saplings to a recently reclaimed mine site. Planting of native trees to this area will go a long way in helping this environment restore itself to its natural state.
Description: The site is called the Venture mine site, and DRMS in partnership with BLM, Freeport McMoran, and Colorado Mountain College completed a mine waste removal and capping project there this fall. Additional work at the site would involve transplanting of lodgepole pine on the repository location and surrounding project site. We anticipate needing approximately 25 volunteers on the two acre site, where they would be required to excavate and replant saplings for one day.

Project Summary: 21 volunteers from Newmont Mining helped to revegetate a mine waste repository at the Venture Mine site above Turquoise Lake near Leadville Colorado. Volunteers planted around 500 trees and shrubs and spread new grass seed in the 2 acre area which holds waste from the former silver mine site nearby.
Successes and Challenges: A long way to go for a SWAT. Have discussed with Anna thinking about ways to streamline these project types and perhaps charge corporate groups accordingly.
