Description: The Panorama Point Trail in an approximately 1.2-mile trail leading up to a gorgeous overlook featuring breathtaking views spanning west toward Mt Evans area overlooking Kittridge and Evergreen. Over time, public use patterns have created a multitude of unsustainable social trails int he area leading hikers astray from the designated route and overlook area. Volunteers will hike approximately 1-1.2 miles into the trail and work on scarifying, seeding, slashing, and naturalizing the unwanted social trails in the area, constructing rock steps and rip rap walls from material in the area, and assist in other trail maintenance tasks. This was a high priority for DMP staff. We completed what we set out to do and because of the heat, we ended the day when we completed to the project. Successes and Challenges: successes - we finished the project that we set out to do. challenges - the group was a little turned off by the length of the hike. It was a nice mellow hike, until you get to the panorama point trail which is very steep. if we do a project with them again, we should probably pick somewhere with less of a hike. Lessons Learned: For this group, we would probably want to do a project closer to the parking area. They get a lot of desk time and were not thrilled with the hike. Special Notes: We had initially planned the project at Red Rocks. After some consideration, Ryan Phillian came back with this project which was much more of a priority with DMP. The project at red rocks would have been material moving at Red Rocks in July with no shade. They said they would go where the need was, but i think this project was maybe a little too much for them. Stewardship Education: Ryan talked about why this was a priority and why social trails are bad. Key Concerns or Comments from Staff or Volunteers: We were a little short a rakes which is what people used the most. Some people were having to use their hands. I thought we would be decompacting and seeding so i had people bring pick mattocks up and we didn't end up needing them. Description of Accidents/Incidents: I guy got a large splinter in his leg. We filled out the accident form and gave it to Sarah. We were not able to get the splinter out on site but he was confident he could get it out once he got home. I irrigated around it as much as i could. He was not in pain. Description of Work Completed:
