Maintenance consisted of filling in eroded areas of the trail, as well as constructing water erosion structures that will help divert water for 5+ years. The work performed will ensure the trail remains in great shape for hikers and for bikers. We served generous donations of Starbucks Coffee and Einstein Bros Bagels. Jack Ihle, who not only works for Xcel Energy but is also a VOC Board Member, brought donoughts and fruit. Jack brought Xcel t-shirts for everyone too. Working with Erik Nilsen from the City of Lakewood was very easy. Erik and two other city employees came out to crew lead for the project. Some folks on the project live in the area and thought this was a very cool opportunity to work on something that is within their own community. Every body had a great time and are interested in volunteering with VOC more in the future. Xcel recruited all the volunteers for this project, which was extremely helpful! Successes and Challenges: Successes We had one person that volunteered to be a Crew Leader for A Day. We got her prepped with the youtube video, but she did not end up crew leading. Lakewood was able to bring another staff member to lead a crew. Jack Ihle arrived not long before we got started (7:55). He had Xcel t-shirts for everyone to wear and brought donuts and snack for everyone. This can be something to think about for next year when providing food. Erik Nilsen and his team were great to work with, very flexible and helped supply plenty of tools. Xcel's volunteer recruitment Challenges I can't say I had any challenges with this project. Everyone from Xcel and Lakewood were extremely helpful and responsive. Everyone's work contributed to a smooth and fun project Lessons Learned: Jack Ihle had a $100 food budget that I was not aware of until the day before. This can be used to help supply breakfast and snack items. Special Notes: This project was one of about 60 other projects happening across the state that same day. A handful of people that were out on the project live near the area and were able to contribute something back to their community. Especially on a trail that is heavily utilized. They enjoyed their project experience and mentioned they would like to volunteer with VOC more. Stewardship Education: Key Concerns or Comments from Staff or Volunteers: Description of Accidents/Incidents: No accidents or incidents. Description of Work Completed:
