Description: Open to volunteers and staff from any organization! Backcountry camping doesn't have to mean meal-in-a-bag dinners. In this Saturday workshop, you'll practice preparing delicious meals for volunteer and other work crews in remote settings and learn essentials such as how to plan menus for remote trips, use pack-string support, set up and manage a kitchen in the backcountry, and cook with a dutch oven outdoors. At the end of the day, you'll put yourskills to the test by preparing and sharing a meal with trainees from the concurrent Spring Trail Skills Training. For those interested in being a Crew Chef for VOC, we recommend you attend theApril 22thVOC Crew Chef Webinarto learn more about the overall VOC Crew Chef role. Campsites are availablefor trainees arriving the Friday night before the training. Indoor dormitory space will be made available if the weather is not suitable for camping. Cost:$30. About Outdoor Stewardship Institute (OSI) Originally created in collaboration with other organizations, OSI offers affordable, in-depth training courses for volunteers and employees from any organization to learn or improve their stewardship skills and prepare for a variety of leadership roles. Approximately 300 people each year receive OSI training in topics such as volunteer crew leadership; trail design, construction, and maintenance; ecological, habitat, and fire restoration; crosscut saw skills and more.
