Summary: Learn the fundamentals of sustainable, natural surface trail design in this weekend workshop!
Description: Open to volunteers and employees from any organization, this course is for those who have prior trail project experience and are familiar with the basic principles of trail design and construction.
In this two-day training, you'll learn how to plan and design a sustainable trail in a small group of less than 15 people. Through a mix of classroom lecture and discussion, field exercises, demonstrations, and group activities, you'll walk away with an understanding of the tools and techniques needed to effectively assess, plan, design, and implement multi-use trails according to sustainability criteria.
Rustic overnight accommodations can be madeat no extra cost for trainees who wish to stay on site. Pleasecontact Dan Williamsin advance if you wish to stay overnight; meals are not provided.
Cost:$60 or a discounted rate of $35for those who have volunteered on 3+ VOC projects in the past 5 years and can commit to mentoring as a Technical Assistant on VOC projects.Contact Dan Williamsto sign up at the discounted rate. About Outdoor Stewardship Institute (OSI)
Originally created in collaboration with other organizations, OSI offers affordable, in-depth training courses for volunteers and employees from any organization to learn or improve their stewardship skills and prepare for a variety of leadership roles. Approximately 300 people each year receive OSI training in topics such as volunteer crew leadership; trail design, construction, and maintenance; ecological, habitat, and fire restoration; crosscut saw skills and more. OSI is a program of Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC), the state's oldest, largest, and leading outdoor stewardship nonprofit organization.
