This exciting training is a must for anyone interested in leading VOC volunteers! Description: This course is exclusively for those interested in leading volunteer crews on VOC projects and is ideal for those with prior trail experience. VOC Crew Leaders are the backbone of VOC projects. They educate new volunteers, lead crews in putting stewardship project plans into action, convey VOC's mission to the community, and help ensure volunteers have a fun, safe, and rewarding experience! By pursuing a Crew Leader rank with VOC, you will expand our ability to perform high-quality stewardship work throughout Colorado. In this two-day workshop, you will join a small class of less than 25 people to receivehands-on training in effective crew leadership as well asthe construction and maintenance of sustainable trails, including tool use and safety. You will also receive a Crew Leader Manual, a set of quick reference cards, and other materials to take home and refer to on the trail. Please notethis course will feature an online component prior to the workshop in order to maximize efficiency and on-the-ground coursework. The online course is provided inpartnership with Colorado Mountain College tomake it easier and faster for volunteers, students, and professionals to obtain the skills necessary to effectively care for Colorado's natural resources. Accommodations are availableon Saturday night at the Mt. Evans Outdoor Lab for those who wish to take advantage. Look for more info within two weeks of the training date. Meals are not provided. Cost:$100or a discounted rate of $65 to those who have volunteered on 2+ VOC projects in the past yearandcommit to volunteering as a Crew Leader Trainee on VOC projects in 2020. About Outdoor Stewardship Institute (OSI) Originally created in collaboration with other organizations, OSI offers affordable, in-depth training courses for volunteers and employees from any organization to learn or improve their stewardship skills and prepare for a variety of leadership roles. Approximately 300 people each year receive OSI training in topics such as volunteer crew leadership; trail design, construction, and maintenance; ecological, habitat, and fire restoration; crosscut saw skills and more. OSI is a program of Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC), the state's oldest, largest, and leading outdoor stewardship nonprofit organization. You should receive an auto-response indicating you have successfully registered for the online course and will receive access to the course within 2 business days. The online work is self paced, takes 4-5 hours to finish and must be completed before attending the in person session of the training. In order for the information to be fresh upon attending the in person session, it's recommended that trainees not start the online work until 3 weeks out from their field training date.
