Description: This page provides access to the discounted group rate for volunteer groups affiliated with the San Juan National Forest and other land management agencies in Dolores, Montezuma, San Juan, La Plata or Archuleta counties. Be sure to provide your address and/or put your group affiliation in the comments or in the answer to "are you taking this training on behalf of a land management agency or stewardship organization." One well-trained Crew Leader can guide up to ten people on a trail construction or maintenance project, and this two-day training will expand your nonprofit or agency's ability to perform high-quality stewardship work. In a class of less than 25 people, each trainee will receive hands-on training in effective crew leadership as well asthe construction and maintenance of sustainable trails, including tool use and safety.You will also receive a Crew Leader Manual, a set of quick reference cards, and other materials to take home and apply directly to stewardship projects. Please notethis course will feature an online component prior to the workshop in order to maximize efficiency and on-the-ground coursework. The online course is provided inpartnership with Colorado Mountain College tomake it easier and faster for volunteers, students, and professionals to obtain the skills necessary to effectively care for Colorado's natural resources. Open to volunteers and employees from any organization, this course is ideal for those who have prior trail project experience. Course Schedule Day 1-6/24: 5pm-7pm:Webinar review and wrap up of self-paced online content with OSI Instructors Day 2-7/11: 8am-4pm:TBD location near Mancos, CO for on the trail skills practice. Details sent to trainees within two weeks of date. Please note:We will do our best to hold the July 11th field date as scheduled. However, this may be disrupted due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic. About Outdoor Stewardship Institute (OSI) Originally created in collaboration with other organizations, OSI offers affordable, in-depth training courses for volunteers and employees from any organization to learn or improve their stewardship skills and prepare for a variety of leadership roles. Approximately 300 people each year receive OSI training in topics such as volunteer crew leadership; trail design, construction, and maintenance; ecological, habitat, and fire restoration; crosscut saw skills and more.
