Description: This exciting two-day workshop will cover the fundamentals of crew leadership including tool and crew safety, as well as the basics of ecological restoration includingbasic planting, seeding and erosion control techniques.Workshop topics are directly applicable to any nonprofit or agency restoration project! This training is best for individuals who have some previous ecological restoration project experience. All trainees will receive a Crew Leader Guide and other goodies that will make for a successful and rewarding training experience. Read Before You Register! To help provide a fun and safe experience for all, there are a few temporary changes to be prepared for: You must provide your own overnight accommodations if needed.VOC will not be providing campsites for this training. Where You'll Be: This course includes self-paced online that must be completed prior to attending training in the field at the Poudre Learning Center in Greeley, CO on April 17-18, 2021. Online learning is provided in partnership with Colorado Mountain College. The Poudre Learning Center (PLC) is situated right along the Poudre River and has been providing environmental education and opportunities to local schools and the greater community for years! What You'll Do: In this workshop, you will join a small class to receive hands-on training in effective crew leadership as well as basic Ecological Restoration tasks, including tool use and safety. You will also receive a Crew Leader Manual, a set of quick reference cards, and other materials to take home and refer to on the trail.This course includes self-paced online work prior to the workshop that takes 5-6 hours to complete; and two days of in-the-field training on Saturday and Sunday, April 17-18. Trainees must register for and complete all components for certification as a Crew Leader for Ecological Restoration. Why It Matters: Crew Leaders are the backbone of outdoor stewardship projects. They educate new volunteers, lead crews in putting stewardship project plans into action, convey their sponsor's mission to the community, and help ensure volunteers have a fun, safe, and rewarding experience! By pursuing a Crew Leader certification with OSI, you will expand our ability to perform high-quality stewardship work throughout Colorado. Latitude/Longitude: Additional Information: This workshop requires that trainees complete online coursework before attending the in-person training session. OSI hosts online training in partnership with Colorado Mountain College. To access the online course content,go to this link. The online work is self paced, takes 5-6 hours to finish and must be completed before attending the in person session of the training. In order for the information to be fresh upon attending the in person session, it's recommended that trainees not start the online work until 3 weeks out from their field training date.
