Where You'll Be:
Roxborough State Park carries the esteemed designation of a Colorado Natural Area and a National Natural Landmark for good reason. The 4,000-acre park, nestled against the foothills south of Littleton, is comprised of stunning red rock formations, unique plant communities and a wide range of wildlife. The approximately 100,000 annual visitors can take in all of Roxborough's beauty from a variety of different access trails.
What You'll Do:
The park is currently working on constructing a new trail, the Bear Canyon Trail. Work would consist mostly of digging in new trail and corridor clearing. These tasks provide a range of difficulty levels, so there will be something for everyone!
Why it Matters: With increased use in parks, new access is important in order to keep trails in good shape. Also new trails provide new experiences for users which everyone loves!

Project Summary: BranchPattern joined VOC for an afternoon at Roxborough State Park to help construct the Bear Creek Trail. Volunteers, many first time trail builders, worked from 2:30-4:30 to construct a 5ft trail that would serve as a connection trail along multiple routes in the park. Overall, Volunteers constructed near 50 feet of trail in the 2 hours of time.
Successes and Challenges: Success: A large amount of trail was built in a short period of time. Crews gained quite a bit of knowledge on trail construction practices as well as tools and their uses.
Challenges: It was the hottest part of the day, on the hottest day of the week- near 100 degrees while we were working. This was not the most enjoyable experience for some of the volunteers, but everyone was kept safe and hydrated.
Lessons Learned: Google maps directed volunteers to a HOA building nearby Roxborough state park.
