Evans Outdoor Education Laboratory School near Evergreen, situated on a historic property originally known as Dodge Ranch. It serves as one of two locations for Jefferson County's hands-on Outdoor Lab Schools, where sixth-grade students live at the ranch for a week and study the area's history, ecology, wildlife, geology, and astronomy. What You'll Do: In this two-day training, you'll learn how to plan and design a sustainable trail in a small group of less than 15 people. Through a mix of classroom lecture and discussion, field exercises, demonstrations, and group activities, you'll walk away with an understanding of the tools and techniques needed to effectively assess, plan, design, and implement multi-use trails according to sustainability criteria. Why It Matters: A sustainable trail starts with a sustainable trail design. Starting with sustainably-built trails saves time, money, and both human and natural resources; by taking this Introduction to Trail Design course, you'll develop a foundation for continuing your trail-building education and creating or rerouting trails that protect the natural environment. Cost: $60 or a discounted rate of $35 for those who have volunteered on 3+ VOC projects in the past 5 years and can commit to mentoring as a Technical Assistant on VOC projects.
