Summary: This exciting training is a must for anyone interested in leading volunteers in trail projects!
Description: This course is ideal for those who have prior trail project experience.
One well-trained Crew Leader can guide up to ten people on a trail construction or maintenance project, and this two-day training will expand your ability to perform high-quality stewardship work. Each trainee will receive hands-on training in effective crew leadership as well asthe construction and maintenance of sustainable trails, including tool use and safety.You will also receive a Crew Leader Manual, a set of quick reference cards, and other materials to take home and apply directly to stewardship projects.
Please note: This course also featuresan online component that must be completed prior to the workshop; the online course is self-paced and takes 4-5 hours to complete.
Cost:This training is sponsored by the BLM Uncompahgre Field Office.

About Outdoor Stewardship Institute (OSI)
Originally created in collaboration with other organizations, OSI offers affordable, in-depth training courses for volunteers and employees from any organization to learn or improve their stewardship skills and prepare for a variety of leadership roles. Approximately 300 people each year receive OSI training in topics such as volunteer crew leadership; trail design, construction, and maintenance; ecological, habitat, and fire restoration; crosscut saw skills and more. OSI is a program of Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC), the state's oldest, largest, and leading outdoor stewardship nonprofit organization. Additional Information: This workshop requires that trainees complete online coursework before attending the in-person training session. OSI hosts online training in partnership with Colorado Mountain College. To access the online course content, go to this link. Fill out the form, selecting OSI-Crew Leadership and OSI Trails Overview from the two available "course selections" drop down menus at the bottom of the form. The second drop down will appear once you select the first. You should receive an auto-response indicating you have successfully registered for the online course and will receive access to the course within 2 business days.
The online work is self paced and takes 4-5 hours to complete. We recommend not starting the content until 2-3 weeks from your training date so that the information is fresh in your mind upon attending the in-person training session.
