Interested in expanding your outdoor stewardship capabilities? This online training provided in partnership with Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado and Colorado Mountain College is a great place to start! As part of the launch of the Purgatoire Watershed Outdoor Stewardship Program, these online training course are being offered at no cost to all community members in the Purgatoire Watershed area!
Depending on your interests, your can select one or both courses from two options. Upon registration, you will receive an auto-email with instructions for accessing the content.
Introduction to Trail Building Part 1 (Trails Overview)
You will work through three online sections covering an overview of how trails are planned and managed for sustainability and the basics of trail construction and maintenance. The course takes 2-3 hours to complete and includes text and diagrams, recorded lecture content, video examples of topics, and quizzes.
Ecological Restoration Overview
You will work through five online sections covering an overview of the basic principles of ecological restoration and various tasks including seeding, planting, willow transplanting, and erosion control. The course takes 3-4 hours to complete and includes text and diagrams, recorded lecture content, video examples of topics, and quizzes.
Then, join us for part 2 of one or both of these courses later this year (dates to be announced) where we'll be conducting in person feild training for further skill development and for hands on practice.

About Outdoor Stewardship Institute (OSI)
Originally created in collaboration with other organizations, OSI offers affordable, in-depth training courses for volunteers and employees from any organization to learn or improve their stewardship skills and prepare for a variety of leadership roles. Approximately 300 people each year receive OSI training in topics such as volunteer crew leadership; trail design, construction, and maintenance; ecological, habitat, and fire restoration; crosscut saw skills and more. OSI is a program of Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC), the state's oldest, largest, and leading outdoor stewardship nonprofit organization.
