?Where You'll Be:
This course includes a self-paced, online portion that must be completed prior to attending the in-person training at Roxborough State Park. The 4,000-acre park, nestled against the foothills south of Littleton, is comprised of stunning red rock formations, unique plant communities and a wide range of wildlife. The approximately 100,000 annual visitors can take in all of Roxborough's beauty from a variety of different access trails.
What You'll Do:
In this two-day workshop, you will join a small class to receive hands-on training in effective crew leadership as well as the construction and maintenance of sustainable trails, including tool use and safety. You will also receive a Crew Leader Manual, a set of quick reference cards, and other materials to take home and refer to on the trail.
Please note this training includes a self-paced, online component prior to the workshop in order to maximize efficiency and on-the-ground coursework; the online course is provided in partnership with Colorado Mountain College. Online course access expires 8/31/2022.
Why It Matters:
VOC Crew Leaders are the backbone of VOC projects. They educate new volunteers, lead crews in putting stewardship project plans into action, convey VOC's mission to the community, and help ensure volunteers have a fun, safe, and rewarding experience! By pursuing a Crew Leader rank with VOC, you will expand our ability to perform high-quality stewardship work throughout Colorado.

About Outdoor Stewardship Institute (OSI)
Originally created in collaboration with other organizations, OSI offers affordable, in-depth training courses for volunteers and employees from any organization to learn or improve their stewardship skills and prepare for a variety of leadership roles. Approximately 300 people each year receive OSI training in topics such as volunteer crew leadership; trail design, construction, and maintenance; ecological, habitat, and fire restoration; crosscut saw skills and more. OSI is a program of Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC), the state's oldest, largest, and leading outdoor stewardship nonprofit organization. Additional Information: This workshop requires that trainees complete online coursework before attending the in-person training session. OSI hosts online training in partnership with Colorado Mountain College. To access the online course content, go to this link. Fill out the form, selecting OSI-Crew Leadership and OSI Trails Overview from the two available "course selections" drop down menus at the bottom of the form. You should receive an auto-response indicating you have successfully registered for the online course and will receive access to the course within 2 business days.
The online work is self paced, takes 4-5 hours to finish and must be completed before attending the in person session of the training. In order for the information to be fresh upon attending the in person session, it's recommended that trainees not start the online work until 3 weeks out from their field training date.
