Project Summary: Kim Frederick led a 3-day Crew Leader training for ELK's Urban Ranger team. Day 1 consisted of an introduction to Crew Leadership and was held a the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge in an indoor classroom setting. Day 2 took place at Castlewood Canyon, where the group was able to practice hands-on basic trailbuilding skills. Day 3 took place at Barr Lake State Park and the group mitigated invasive species and helped plant and weed a pollinator garden.
Successes and Challenges: Successes:
- Jeremy with ELK did a great job managing the logistics for the Urban Rangers (everything from transportation to food to work breaks and team dynamics).
- Kim Frederick was a very easy to coordinate with and knowledgeable instructor.
Challenges:
- Having 3 different training locations for each day was a bit difficult from the logistics side of things, but it ended up allowing for a good variety of experience/skills practice for the participants.
