Summary: Spend Earth Day weekend sharpening your stewardship skills before the season gets into full swing!
Description: Open to volunteers and employees from any organization, this course is ideal for those who have prior trail project experience.
Sharpen your skills before the stewardship season gets into full swing! In this weekend workshop, you'll have the opportunity to learn from the best in the trail-building business, including OSI Instructors and VOC Crew Leaders who have been building and maintaining trails for decades. Whether you sign up for one or both days, you'll get to practice, improve, and expand upon your knowledge in trail construction, rock work, drainage structures, and other sustainable trail practices.
This year, rock work and trail maintenance skills will be our focus, specifically rock walls and steps. We will also have the chance to work on drainage structures and other skills that present themselves during the weekend.
You may register for one or both days. Saturday will be focused on trail maintenance while Sunday will be focused on rock work.
No meals or camping is provided.
Cost: $80 or $55* forthose who meet one or more of the following qualifications:
Volunteered on 3+ VOC projects in the past year
Certified VOC Crew Leader or other leadership position
Current VOC Crew Leader Trainee, or signed up for a Crew Leadership for Trails Training

About Outdoor Stewardship Institute (OSI)
Originally created in collaboration with other organizations, OSI offers affordable, in-depth training courses for volunteers and employees from any organization to learn or improve their stewardship skills and prepare for a variety of leadership roles. Approximately 300 people each year receive OSI training in topics such as volunteer crew leadership; trail design, construction, and maintenance; ecological, habitat, and fire restoration; crosscut saw skills and more. OSI is a program of Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC), the state's oldest, largest, and leading outdoor stewardship nonprofit organization. Additional Information: This workshop offers optional online coursework before attending the in-person training session. OSI hosts online training in partnership with Colorado Mountain College. To access the online course content,go to this link. Fill out the form, selecting Rock Skills Overview and/or Drainage Structures Overview from the available "course selections" drop down menus at the bottom of the form. ANY OTHER COURSE SELECTIONS WILL BE REMOVED UPON REGISTRATION.
You should receive an auto-response indicating you have successfully registered for the online course and will receive access to the course within 2 business days.
The online work is self paced and each module takes 2-3 hours to complete. We recommend not starting the content until 2-3 weeks from your training date so that the information is fresh in your mind upon attending the in-person training session.
