Summary: Harvest at Civic Center Park
Description: 20-30 people from United Airlines will harvest gardens at Civic Center Park
Where We'll Be: Bordered by the State Capitol, the City and County Building, and the Denver Art Museum, Civic Center Park is the centerpiece of Denver's green space. The park blooms with 25,000 square feet of flower beds each summer and serves as a popular event site.
Why It Matters: The produce that will be planted will mature in the fall, and at that time be donated to local organizations including food banks, homeless shelters, and families in need. Further, by growing food locally, we reduce our carbon footprint (food isn't transported thousands of miles), minimize water use, decrease soil erosion, and help develop a sustainable community.

Project Summary: United volunteers began arriving at 8:30am for a scheduled work time of 9-11am. In all, almost 40 volunteers arrived. Barb and Linda were both on site with an additional volunteer leader from Grow Local.

Challenges
Barb/Linda counted on me (VOC staff) to lead the planting of one of the beds but I had to wrap up registration so my crew was slightly behind the others and wasn't sure how to get started
Lessons Learned: Explain the work/steps before dividing into crews to ensure everyone has the info they need to get started
Check that there aren't other park activities going on at the same time. I had to move our vehicle because of Civic Center Eats, which slowed down my ability to join a crew
