Where You’ll Be:
Lakewood Dry Gulch is located on the west side of Denver and is part of a network of parks and trails connecting to the South Platte River. The park is in the Villa Park neighborhood, a historically under-resourced neighborhood which is seeing quite a bit of growth and development. It is adjacent to RTD light rail and bus stations, making it a transportation hub between Sheridan Blvd and Federal Blvd. This park faces challenges due to the urban nature of the area but provides a unique opportunity for residents to enjoy green space and serves as a wildlife corridor through the city.
What You’ll Do:
The work will involve using hand saws and possibly chainsaws to remove species such as common Buckthorn, Siberian Elm, and Tree of Heaven. Volunteers will cut and stack piles for later removal from the site, which may involve dragging vegetation up or down hillsides.
Please bring your own lunch for the day!
Why It Matters:
It is a priority to restore high-quality habitat and native vegetation to this park, and to reduce invasive weeds from moving downstream towards the South Platte River.
