Where You’ll Be:
Nestled in the heart of downtown Denver, Civic Center Park is a vibrant centerpiece of the city’s green spaces, bordered by iconic landmarks such as the State Capitol, the City and County Building, and the Denver Art Museum. The park blooms with 25,000 square feet of flower beds each summer and serves as a popular event site.
What You’ll Do:
Get outside, connect with your community, and make a difference in a meaningful way! Volunteers ages 8 and up will help plant a donation food garden in Civic Center Park, transforming a portion of this city space into a source of fresh produce for those in need.
Guided by Grow Local Colorado staff, you’ll learn what vegetables are being planted and why, as well as how to strategically place each plant to ensure optimal growth and productivity. Whether you're a gardening pro or a complete beginner, this is a great opportunity to gain new skills, ask questions about your own garden, or get inspired to start one for the first time.
As a bonus, participants may be able to take home extra seeds and seedlings—while supplies last!
Why It Matters:
The vegetables planted will mature in the fall and be donated to local food banks, homeless shelters, and families in need, helping to address food insecurity in our community. This partnership with Grow Local Colorado fosters a more connected community; highlights the beauty and impact of edible gardens; and supports a more sustainable food system by reducing the carbon footprint of food production and distribution.
