Description

Where you'll be:

A quick drive from Denver, Golden Gate Canyon State Park sprawls across 12,000 acres, featuring dense forests, rocky peaks, and aspen-fringed meadows with an extensive trail network. Catering to hikers, bikers, backpackers, equestrians, anglers, campers, rock climbers, and winter sports enthusiasts, the park welcomes approximately 1 million annual visitors. Home to diverse wildlife, it's an ideal spot for wildlife watching and photography. Expect breathtaking scenery, rock formations, and the possibility of wildlife sightings, such as deer, elk, and various birds.

What you'll do:

Join us as you work with volunteers ages 16+ to reroute a few sections of the multi-use Raccoon Trail.

The focus is on enhancing sustainability, with tasks ranging from moderate to challenging, including trail construction, rock wall building, and creating switchbacks for those seeking a technical challenge.

Why it's important:

With 1 million annual visitors, Golden Gate Canyon State Park sees heavy use, particularly on the Raccoon Trail near Reverend's Ridge Campground and Panorama Point. The current section poses sustainability issues and a difficult and potentially hazardous experience for visitors. Volunteer efforts will ensure a safer and more enjoyable trail experience for all.
