2024-Noxious Weed Removal @ Moon Pass

Expired

Description

Where you'll be:

Join us for the 5th annual Moon Pass invasive weed pull! We will spend the weekend in the starry-skied San Luis Valley, hiking through forested slopes to remove the List B noxious weed, oxeye daisy. VOC hosted the first weekend-long noxious weed removal project at Moon Pass in 2020. This volunteer effort has been so successful that the Land Manager has opted to no longer treat this area with chemical herbicides! We will be camping at the Poso Campground in the Rio Grande National Forest.

What you'll do:

Volunteers will hand-pull the oxeye daisy plants and rosettes with dandelion forks, bagging all plant material to mitigate the growth and spread of the plant.

Enjoy breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, along with dinner on Saturday. Bring your own lunch (BYOL). Free campsites are available on Friday and Saturday nights, and volunteers are encouraged to arrive at base camp before 8 pm on Friday.

Why it's important:

By removing oxeye daisies from the area, you will improve the health of native plant communities and wildlife. Your efforts on this project will also help keep this area free of chemical herbicides

The campground is 2WD accessible and then we will shuttle further down the 2WD dirt road to the work site.

Other notes:
