Where you'll be:
Join VOC at Washington Park - a beloved gem within the Denver Parks system. Designed by landscape architect Reinhard Scheutze in the late 1800s, this 165-acre park now draws over 800,000 visitors annually. The park is home to several historic buildings, like The Dos Chappell Bathhouse, which is Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado's main office. The park features two lakes, a picturesque pond, 54 enchanting flower beds, a bustling recreation center, and a 2.5-mile crusher-fine trail known as the Wash Park Loop, encircling the park's perimeter.
What you'll do:
Due to the sheer volume of visitors to Washington Park, some park improvements are needed. Tasks on this project could include mulching around trees, painting benches, and resurfacing the Wash Park Loop trail that circumnavigates the park. The trail was originally constructed by over 800 VOC volunteers in 1993 and needs another layer of crusher fine gravel to restore some of the rutted sections of the trail that are currently difficult for walkers and joggers to navigate. Volunteers will likely be focusing efforts on the north side of the park near the VOC office, including the section of trail north of Virginia along Marion Parkway.
Why it's important:
Your efforts will contribute to the ongoing preservation and enhancement of Washington Park, ensuring it remains a welcoming haven for all people to enjoy recreational activities, embrace nature, and unwind.
