Summary: Trail restoration and maintenance on the first 2 miles of the Arapaho Pass Trail
Description: At the summit of the Arapaho Pass Trail, hikers experience a
true panoramic mountain scene with Mt. Neva, James Peak, Longs
Peak, the Continental Divide and numerous unnamed spires all
around. Located in the Indian Peaks Wilderness, the Arapaho Pass
Trail is one of the most popular summer hikes to see endless fields
of brilliant alpine wildflowers and crystal clear glacial lakes. Sadly, the trail has fallen into severe disrepair. The Forest Service believes
that without immediate intervention, this trail will likely erode
away entirely and will negatively affect surrounding fragile alpine
environments. Without volunteer care and attention, safety issues
may necessitate permanent closure. One hundred volunteers will
assist with this important restoration effort by stabilizing erosive
and damaged sections of trail with rock walls and other sustainable
structures and rerouting an unsafe portion along a 2-mile section of
the trail. Help save this spectacular trail and ensure that it remains
open for years to come.
