Summary: Construct 1.5 miles of new trail, creating a new access route into the Lizard Head Wilderness
Description: The Lizard Head Wilderness, a land of solitude and
rugged mountain splendor, boasts exquisite cirque lakes,
three fourteeners and miles of strenuous trail. With the
help of 75 volunteers, VOC and the San Juan Mountain
Association will spend the 4th of July weekend constructing
a new trail that connects the Burro Bridge campground,
located just outside the wilderness, to the
incomparable beauty and adventure inside the wilderness
boundary. Currently, no trail connects the campground to
the wilderness, forcing campers to travel by car to nearby
trailheads. This new trail will provide access to numerous
existing trails and thousands of acres of pristine backcountry.
Join in the excitement of building a new trail and
enjoy the holiday weekend amidst groves of aspen, stunning
mountains, rewarding work and good company.
