Summary: Construct 1/4 mile of crusher fine trail, install interpretive signs, build two bird blinds, remove noxious weeds, and plant wetland plants
Description: Celebrate National Public Lands Day by making Chatfield State
Park's new wetland site the premier educational wetland on the
Front Range. After volunteers planted 40,000 wetland plants at the site in spring 2004, a thriving wetland habitat emerged, attracting a
wide variety of wildlife including frogs, turtles, dragonflies, birds
and plenty of bugs. To provide the necessary infrastructure to make
it accessible to students and other interested visitors, volunteers
will spend the day building an educational trail, installing interpretive
signs on wetland ecology and constructing two bird-viewing
blinds. To assist with the long-term health of the wetland, volunteers
will also plant additional wetland plants and remove any invasive
species that have entered the wetland. A park known for
providing unique educational opportunities, the Chatfield Wetland
will offer an exceptional local site to educate residents about the
importance of wetland habitats.
