Summary: Construct 2.5 miles of basic trail and build rock cairns
Description: Imagine traveling by foot for 3,000 miles from Canada to
Mexico. Spend the weekend building a portion of one of the most
nationally renowned trails, the Continental Divide National Scenic
Trail. While most of the Colorado portion of the trail is already
built, some north-south linkages require hikers to travel along dirt
roads. In an effort to move the trail off-road, VOC is partnering with
the Continental Divide Trail Alliance to re-route a portion of the
trail from Bowen Pass to Illinois Pass. The work requires constructing
approximately 2,000 feet of technical and steep trail and building
a series of cairns through a high alpine meadow. Don't miss the
opportunity to spend the weekend in some of Colorado's most
rugged and remote alpine environments. Volunteers will be
required to hike 2 miles into the work site.
