Description

Start Date-End Date: 08/06/2005-08/07/2005 Land Manager Office: USFS - Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre & Gunnison NF Land Manager Contact: Funding Partner: Programmatic Partner: Summary: Construct 4 miles of a natural surface mountain bike trail Description: Due to high snow pack and cool spring weather there is still a tremendous amount of snow on Grand Mesa, preventing us from accessing the site to complete our project planning. For this reason, VOC has decided to reschedule the Flowing Park Project. The new project date is August 6-7, 2005. The trails are not congested, and there are no crowds around the lakes. Grand Mesa's large open meadows and hundreds of high alpine lakes provide enough open space for visitors to find their own outdoor haven. Volunteers will build 4 miles of new trail linking the existing Indian Point Trail, a 5-mile point-to-point bike trail, to backcountry roads transforming it into a 12-mile "family loop" trail. To accommodate increased demand for summer mountain biking opportunities and family-appropriate trails, VOC is partnering with the Colorado Plateau Mountain Bike Association to take on this important task. When complete, the new Flowing Park Trail will provide an easy to moderate summer biking route and breathtaking views of the Delta Valley. Volunteers will be required to walk 2.5 miles along a flat grade into the work site Latitude/Longitude: Additional Information: Camping Available: Physical Difficulty: Difficult High Altitude Project: Desired Number of Volunteers: 0 Total Adult Volunteers Attended: 189 Total Youth Volunteers Attended: 25 Total Volunteer Days: 214 Total Unique Volunteers: 116 Total Volunteer Hours: 560 Staff Hours: 0 Stipend Hours: 0 Project Summary: Successes and Challenges: Lessons Learned: Special Notes: Stewardship Education: Key Concerns or Comments from Staff or Volunteers: Description of Accidents/Incidents: Description of Work Completed:
