Summary: Help keep this beautiful wilderness area weed free! Two workdays to choose from; participate in one or both. Volunteers will be supervised by VOC crew leaders. Meals, tools and training will be provided.
Description: Valued for its remote feel and stunning beauty, the pristine James Peak
Wilderness is home to high alpine lakes, wildflower meadows bursting with
color, and James Peak, the area's 13,294-foot namesake. While the wilderness
area remains relatively weed-free, populations of the destructive oxeye
daisy are flourishing at its access points and quickly reducing native plant
populations, including many of those gorgeous flowers. Unfortunately,
there is no biological control for this aggressive weed, and time is of the
essence to eliminate this intruder from the area. Volunteers will spend the
day pulling daisies by hand and shovel.
