Summary: Restoration and maintenance of two miles of historic trail in Colorado National Monument
Description: With its sheer-walled canyons, towering monoliths and
colorful formations, the Colorado National Monument preserves
one of the great landscapes of the American West.
Spend two early spring days rebuilding portions of the historic
Liberty Cap Trail to help preserve the trail's historical significance
and ensure it remains open for decades to come. Work
will include upgrading rock walls and erosion-control structures,
clearing overgrown sections of trail and establishing
trail tread. Originally built in 1905, the Liberty Cap Trail still
enjoys heavy use today as one of three trails that descend the
monument from the rim to the canyon floor. While in great
condition relative to its age, this historic trail is in need of
some volunteer care.
