Summary: Construct 700 feet of new trail and complete trail restoration and maintenance work
Description: Surrounded by eerie cones, sharp pinnacles and massive
domes, the Wheeler Geological Area looks like it is on another
planet. Unfortunately, this geological wonder is exceptionally
erosive and will eventually be reduced to a
humble bald mountain. Until then, VOC will aid in
the fight against controllable erosion by spending
Labor Day weekend maintaining the trails surrounding
this extraordinary site. Volunteers will reroute a
heavily eroded section of trail and complete general
maintenance to ensure that future visitors will enjoy
this remarkable place. This is a backcountry project
requiring volunteers to hike 7 miles into the camp
and work site.
