Located where the plains meets the foothills, it offers access into riparian, wetland, grassland and shrubland ecosystems along the South Platte River. Chatfield State Park provides habitat for 345 bird species and is a designated Important Bird Area. Visitors may also chance upon the coyotes, red foxes, mule deer, black bears or bullsnakes that inhabit Chatfield for all or part of the year.
