Summary: Celebrate National Trails Day by building a new hiking and mountain biking trail in the beautiful red rock canyon country of western Colorado.
Description: We'll be working on approximately one mile of a new singletrack hike/bike loop trail southwest of Gateway, Colorado. This trail will showcase the spectacular scenery and geology of this desert oasis at the confluence of the Dolores River and West Creek. Much of the route we'll be building follows a low sandstone rim near the mouth of Lumsden Canyon. Each turn of the trail provides a different perspective on the massive red walls of the Palisade, Gateway Canyon and the Dolores River valley.
Volunteers will receive a National Trails Day t-shirt. A BBQ meal will be provided following each day's work. Entertainment will be provided Saturday evening. All volunteers will be eligible for prize drawings throughout the weekend. Free camping will be available on nearby public lands. A limited number of rooms are available for reservation at the Gateway Canyons Resort.
