Description: The Nature Conservancy's Medano-Zapata Ranch in the San Luis Valley is a biological and historic treasure. It hosts dozens of rare plant and animal species and one of the largest free roaming bison herds in the Americas. The historic ranch traverses thousands of acres of meadows, wetlands, sand dunes and cottonwood groves. Adjacent to the Great Sand Dunes National Monument and the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness Area, visitors are treated to views of several 14ers, a stone-age bison-kill site, and a prehistoric Native American camp. TNC needs help to construct an interpretive trail system to provide public access to these unique lands. Your work will enable visitors to reconnect with nature and explore the history and natural resources in the valley. This project promises fun work, great camping and the opportunity to open some of Colorado's most captivating public lands to new visitors.
