Description: Join VOC and the Tamarisk Coalition for this workshop/ project to battle one of our most destructive invaders. Tamarisk, also called salt cedar is spreading rapidly through canyons and riparian areas in western and southern Colorado. This scrub native to Eurasia and Africa uses far more than its share of water, concentrates salts in its leaves and makes the surrounding ground inhospitable to native plants. This valuable educational event is located in the striking canyon carved by the Colorado River between Grand Mesa and the Book Cliffs. Learn first hand the full cycle of removing an invasive weed and then restoring the area with native planting. Build your leadership skills with a crew leader mini training on Friday and then apply your new knowledge leading a crew Saturday and Sunday. Ample camping space is available. Please bring food for lunches and snacks and for Friday's training. Light breakfast Saturday and Sunday and dinner Saturday will be provided.
