Description: Be part of VOC's first ever Stewardship Adventure. Travel by canoe into, and out of the work site. Professional canoe guides are donating time to provide you a unique experience with breathtaking scenery, terrific food and rewarding volunteer service.
This leisurely 31-mile trip on the Gunnison through the Escalante and Dominguez Canyons is ideal for beginning and intermediate canoeists. Massive cottonwood trees stand on the river bends supporting huge nests of blue herons, hawks and eagles. Side trips into deep box canyons leave you awed by the immensity of geologic time and the silence of the wilderness. Paddle beside high walls of beautiful red sandstone and shale. Experience the excitement of negotiating easy Class 1+ rapids.
Help improve one of the prime camp sites on the river. Remove water robbing tamarisk. Restore river-side trails and close social trails. When the work day is over there is ample time to embrace the land. Hiking options include the spectacular Dominguez Canyon Wilderness Study Area complete with a 40-foot waterfall, secluded swimming holes and numerous ancient Indian petroglyphs.
There is a $100 fee for this adventure to cover the cost of 4 days of food.
