Summary: This one of six different trails for this project. Sign up for the trail that most interests you! Appropriate for anyone 16 and over who can work at altitude. Experience on a trail project is helpful but not necessary. Six crews, on six different trails, in one great wilderness, on one day...what a great way to make a difference. The Mt Evans Wilderness is just 30 minutes from over 2 million people and its trails need your help.
Description: The first mile climbs gradually through the trees then it seems to level out for about three miles. Once you cross Vance Creek, it begins to climb slowly once again. The forest opens up to a meadow where 700 acres of forest burned in the 1962 Lincoln Lake Fire. Elk graze in this newly developed meadow. The last mile drops steeply and may be a little rocky.
*Be aware of quickly advancing summer lightning storms.
Elevation:
- Trailhead: 10,600'
- Destination: 10,400'
This innovative project combines the responsiveness of an adopt work day with the impact of a large scale project. VOC will partner with Friends of Mt Evans and Lost Creek Wilderness to field six crews, at least one all women, to do trail maintenance and restoration. Improve your skills and learn how to lead an adopt-a-trail day.
