Built by Charles Alfred Johnson from 1924 to 1926, Charlford Castle, as it was originally named, sits atop a sandstone mesa with breathtaking views of the Front Range. Today, Cherokee Ranch encompasses over 3100 acres of grassland, shrub lands, and conifer forests and is home to elk, black bear, wild turkeys and Santa Gertrudis cattle. VOC will partner with Douglas County Open Space, The Cherokee Ranch and Castle Foundation to construct a new access trail from the Cherokee Castle to the group picnic area.
