Start Date-End Date: 07/17/2010-07/17/2010 Land Manager Office: Land Manager Contact: Funding Partner: Programmatic Partner: Summary: Bakerville / Loveland Ski Area Noxious Weed Removal Description: Volunteers will pull and dig scentless chamomile, a bushy plant with bright green, fern-like leaves and white daisy-type flowers that is listed as a noxious weed in Colorado. This noxious weed while attractive to hikers is spreading rapidly throughout Summit County and the Rocky Mountains, driving out native plants. Hand tools including dandelion diggers and shovels will be used. The project site includes National Forest lands at the Herman Gulch trailhead parking area, two parking lots at Loveland Ski area, and the five-mile Bakerville-Loveland trail, all along Interstate 70 west of Georgetown. Volunteers will enjoy easy access and views of nearby spectacular mountain peaks, while knowing they are helping to protect Clear Creek County from invasions of scentless chamomile as it travels east along Interstate 70 with the traffic.
