Summary:
Description: The San Luis Valley Public Lands Center (Monte Vista, CO) is looking for a back-up VIS (Visitor's Information Specialist). The ideal candidate would be available Tuesday & Thursday afternoons, with a potential for volunteering the other days of the week. He/she should also be able to go with the flow and help out with other tasks. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Major Duties include but are not limited to:
Answering both internal and external phone calls, then redirecting them to the appropriate party. Welcome visitors, provide answers to reoccurring visitor questions concerning both the US Forest Service and the BLM. Provide directions and make suggestions on where and how visitors can enjoy the public lands. Perform opening and closing functions of the front desk (8:30am - 4:30pm). _________________________________________________________________________________________________________
VIS employees deal with a large variety of individuals of varying ages, abilities, personalities, and needs, courtesy and customer service is always the priority. Work is often completed independently according to established procedures. Some light lifting will be required. Standing or sitting for long periods of time is not uncommon. Applicants must have good listening skills, enjoy meeting and helping people, and have good attention to details. In addition, the applicant must be reliable and a team player, and enjoy learning about and sharing knowledge of park resources. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________
