Description: The US Forest Service is looking for a volunteer (or a volunteer couple) to help complete our National Visitor Use Monitoring (NVUM) surveys in the Divide District of the Rio Grande National Forest. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The Rio Grande National Forest is one of the undiscovered jewels of Colorado located about 4 hours south of Denver and 4 hours north of Albuquerque, NM. This 1.86 million acre National Forest provides access a variety of recreation activities perfect for all ages and fitness levels, offering a chance for you to enjoy your favorite hobby, whether it is fishing the bottoms of the Rio Grande River or hiking to the tops of our many 14,000 foot mountains. The Rio Grande NF truly does have something for everyone. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Ideal candidates need to be available throughout the summer, starting in late May and finishing in early September. Over the course of the summer, you (and your spouse) will travel to dozens of designated recreation areas at pre-arranged dates and times to set up "counters." While on site you will use established forms to conduct individual interviews of the recreation goers and then 24 hours later you will return to gather the counters and its information. Each survey location will be attended for a period of 6 hours (not including travel time.) ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
If you enjoy conversing with fellow travelers, driving down highways that are flanked by jaw dropping scenery, and can take pleasure in haphazard quiet time, than this will be a summer you won't forget. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Housing is available. Options included trailer pad for your RV/trailer or a room in the Forest Service bunk house. The use of a government vehicle will be provided for travel during volunteer days. Sorry, but no pets are allowed. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
