Start Date-End Date: 07/06/2010-09/12/2010 Land Manager Office: Land Manager Contact: Funding Partner: Programmatic Partner: Summary: Description: Are you looking for an all-expenses paid vacation??? _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Every year the USFS is responsible for monitoring and counting Bighorn sheep, amongst other varieties wildlife, but since the region is so vast we need your help. If you are a skilled hiker and would like to explore parts of the forest that only a few Coloradoans have seen, than this is the job for you! _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Rio Grande National Forest is looking for volunteers to hike in the Weminuche Wilderness and monitor a handful of wildlife species. The Weminuche, Colorado's largest wilderness area, is split by the Continental Divide, with the San Juan National Forest to the west and the Rio Grande National forest on its east. Within, this pristine environment three 14ers can be found, Windom Peak, Mount Eolus, and Sunlight Peak. In addition to those three cloud scrapers, there are numerous 13ers that provide extraordinary vistas that go on for miles and miles. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Volunteers will be needed July 6th through September 12th, with a one week minimum trip length required. The USFS will provide a stipend of $16 per day; we will also provide you the opportunity to hike some of this state's most beautiful and secluded trails, as well as witness wildlife in its nature environment. All you have to provide is a sense of adventure and the love of the outdoors.
