Summary:
Description: Do you live for spending your summer outdoors? Do you have a love for hiking, fishing, bird watching, rock climbing, four-wheeling, sitting around a campfire, or just sleeping under the stars? How would you like to feel the warm summer breeze gently glide passed you as you watch summer wildlife dance across a skyline painted with a million shades of red and orange? ________________________________________________________________________________________________________
If this sounds like your type of summer than you are in luck, the Rio Grande National Forest (Saguache Ranger District) is looking for a campground host(s) for the rustic Poso Campground. Hosts will be responsible for general campground duties such as, walking the campsite loop (11 campsites), checking the bathroom for problems, answering campers' questions, assisting the rangers to keep track of open campsites, and maintaining the campgrounds (including minor repairs, clean-up, and ash removal from fire rings). ________________________________________________________________________________________________________
In exchange for this service the host will receive fee-free camping all summer in an absolutely gorgeous part of the San Luis Valley. We will also provide limited compensation for both generator fuel and septic tank dumping fees. Poso Campground sits at 9,100 feet and has NO HOOK-UPS, so hosts will need to be self sufficient. Groceries are available approximately 15 miles away at the La Garita Trading Post. Nearby sites include Penitente Canyon, the La Garita Wilderness, The Great Sand Dunes NP, and much more.
If you are interested in helping out this summer please contact Rob Santoro at (719) 852-6267 or email rob@voc.org ________________________________________________________________________________________________________
* ARRA construction project scheduled at Poso from July 26 - 30. All occupants, including the host, will need to vacate the campground during construction. This will be an ideal time to explore the other natural wonders of the San Luis Valley.
